Here is a very interesting article I found about infinite mind and memory speed reading.

How about using mindmapping to enhance speed-reading?

Speed-reading is maximizing our reading and comprehension skills. It is digesting information in the quickest possible reading time. Mindmapping helps a great deal in easy understanding and dissemination. It is based on non-linear technique of writing and thus kindles creativity and whole-brain thinking.

Speed-reading as the term indicates, is reading faster and at the same time assimilating and understanding information in the same speed. This is a highly useful skill, more so in the current times as now, where we are severely hard pressed for time, even as we are expected to keep pace with the information overflow.

If you sit back and analyze how you read this article your style of reading will be evident to you. Generally people tend to read by moving from one word to another, in the same manner as the child does. Adults very often read by moving from one block of words to another in a continuous way. Occasionally we might go back on a line of words, when they are not clear to us. These disruptions to the flow of the reading are known as ’skip backs’.

The most common problem that hinders speed-reading is sub-vocalization. As your eyes move from one word to another, you will find movement in your tongue or the throat region. That is because you are reading the words silently within yourself. Such sub-vocalizations lead to a mismatch between the reading speed and thinking speed.

One way to overcome this habit is to consciously count one to ten as you keep reading so the focus is on the content rather than on sub-vocalizing the information. As you work on this, you will soon find that you begin to process the words in your mind, an area called ‘thought stream’ rather than your tongue or throat. Through speed-reading you can keep pace with your thinking speed without any brakes in the form of ’skip backs’. This greatly enhances your reading and comprehension skills.

Another way is to speed your eye movements. Draw two vertical lines and wrap the text within them. Now move your eyes in ‘Z’ pattern over this text at a slightly faster speed. Since your eyes move over the words, and do not rest your eye to read word by word, you will automatically learn to fill in the gaps. In time not only do you learn to read faster, but also comprehend the information faster, which helps in increasing your recall abilities.

So speed-reading is simply not about how quickly you can read. It involves much more of your brain centers and attention and thus in the process, it greatly enhances your comprehension and creativity skills. Since speed-reading is a kind of non-linear style, it combines well with mindmapping, which is based primarily on non-linear ways of absorbing information.

Mindmapping uses concise words, pictures, color, associations and other visual aids to convey the essence of an idea or information. By constant use of mindmapping, you learn to ‘fill in the gaps’ and increase your cognitive skills. Mindmap thus is a complementary tool that helps your thinking, comprehending and recalling skills.

An informative article on speed reading training and speed reading skills.

Advance Reading Skills Every Speed Reader Should Possess!

Every speed reader knows that skill is an important asset in speed reading. He employs different strategies to accomplish his aim of reading. As he reads, he develops questions in his mind that will aid him in comprehension. In his mind, he foresee and narrate what he is about to learn. Before reading, a speed reader makes proper analysis of the material on hand in the form of cause and effect when they stumble on words, statements or figures of speech. All these and many other activities the speed reader does to comprehend his material within a limited time.

The skills most speed reader use in reaching speed in their reading includes but not limited to observation, practice, brainstorming, eye movement, and so on to find new ways to increase their reading speed. Using this process, it has been discovered that some observers tend to comprehend more than those who read the actual material. Therefore, it is in the nature of speed readers to observe clearly to help them in defining their topic before speed reading.

Observation is synonymous to investigation and speed readers also do this before they read. They investigate what they are about reading to see if they are familiar with the topic. In order words speed readers define the ‘rules’ that help them to achieve success in speed reading. Other areas that the speed reader investigates is the writers approach. He considers thesis while reading. Thesis describes the topic in brevity. It is like a headline so to speak, it presents the main ideas of a material and gives the reader an advantage ahead of the reading material. This increases speed in reading.

In reading, speed readers considers conveniency in terms of location, effect of noise, time of the day, conducive environment, and the best position to achieve the maximum effect of reading fast. He also considers his state of mind before reading and the topic, usually they pick topics of interest to make their reading task easier.

Once reading is commenced, after the above factors has been settled, the speed reader bears at the back of his mind the thesis of the material and progresses. Along the line, if he confronts any unfamiliar terms, he goes back and tries to read it again, using contextual meaning, if it does not work, he ignores this part and continues reading and once concluded, he comes back and consults a dictionary to get a clear meaning for a difficult term.

Below is an example of what a speed reader does when he is reading any material of interest.

Aim
I need to know about revision

Statement:
The Revision Process

In revising, you have to follow some given steps which is going over the information you have written once more. You reread all the details seeking errors, grammar, punctuation and correcting them accordingly. The best way to clearly do the revision process is by trying to go over the material as a reader and not as a writer, that way your eyes will be opened to all the flaws of the material.

From the above statement, a speed reader is able to first understand what he is about reading before the real reading. The thesis here is "The Revision Process" Thus he is able to fully grasp the implication of the whole statement even before he initiates and concludes his reading. That is the essence of speed reading.

Speed Reading: The Course of Speed Scientific Reading

If you have the extreme passion for reading but you experience difficulty in absorbing large quantities of information from the material you read, then you’ve got to engage in some speed reading practices.

Speed reading will also encourage you more to appreciate your studies, enjoy reading bulky novels, books, and other write-ups. Speed reading has a designated purpose. There is literally no one in this world who can escape reading. At all rates, reading is an integral part of man’s life.

The Secret Steps to Speed Reading – Do some warm-up exercises before focusing entirely. Using your hands one at a time, create some imaginary infinity symbols. Then, close your eyes and visualize the creation of narrower infinity symbols. Become aware of how your eyes move from left to right and vice versa. After which, get a pen and scribble on a page using the Zorro strategy.

There are three essential elements that make up a soft-focus. Firstly, you’ve got to focus your eyesight into the upper-half portion of the letters of those words comprising the sentence. The retina will be much comfortable in this setup and speed reading is increased by up to 35%.

Secondly, look indirectly into the words in a sentence just like how binoculars work out. In a snail-pace, focus on the words one by one just like how you would read through a microscope.

Thirdly, using your mental ability, divide the sentence into about three clauses and into three words each. Continue practicing in this manner.

Do the hard focus. There is a need for you to first understand what soft-focus means before you will get the chance to get into the real depths of the hard-focus. Hard-focus of the vision is engaged to when you get to watch tv, play videogames, work on the computer, and so on. Hard focus in speed reading is likewise referred to as the tunnel-vision as compared to the lateral left and lateral right vision of the horses. The main difference of the hard-focus with the soft-focus is that the first one is concerned with a narrowed spectrum whereas the latter one is more of eye relaxation.

Remember that speed reading can only be achieved through constant practice. If you are up and about to the training that you must engage to, you know for certain that speed reading can soon be one of your fortes.

Learning Speed Reading – Online

Speedread America was America’s first company to introduce sophistically developed speed reading courses. In 1997 the first online course was Speed Reading in Only One Hour, by Dr. Jay Polmar. The company’s great success was increased through the publicity given by the Bottom Line magazine, a publication that served small businesses.

Slightly thereafter, Dr. Polmar’s college/university speedreading course was completed for online distribution – Be Dynamic Through Speedreading is a self-taught 7 hour course that the Dr Polmar personally taught at Colleges and Universities in New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Oregon and Hawaii. This educational program course includes speed reading, brain/mind methods of concentration, improvement of the memory and the recall function, development of the intuition to take exams, and also, the the art and science of how to write term papers and theses. This dynamic program also assisted with helping study take effective notes after studying the program and apply the techniques.

In 2000, the children’s program, entitled If You Can Read This, You Can Read Faster was developed with the aid of a 12 year old secondary student, Ashley Johnson. Ashley assisted Dr Polmar to revise the One Hour Program, with added vocabulary, describing the psychology of education. It has helped thousands of youngsters to increase reading levels and teach speed reading to children.

Beginning in 2002, Dr. Polmar began writing of programs specially for use in Mexico. This included: The Gringo Guide to speaking Spanish (a course for tourists), the Legends Reading Program (a bilingual educational tool for students from 5 years old through college), Don Francisco’s Guide to English, (a basic primer to the English Language and a Guide to English Slang), three translations of his speed reading courses into Spanish at primary, secondary and college levels, and a specialized course in English for the Tourism industry for Hotels and Restaurants.

These books took the dedication of Mexican Educators in the region of Guadalajara and Mexico City to complete. The Spanish/Latino versions help Spanish readers to become English-speaking for more success in their later lives.

The results of our speed reading and English programs amounts to reduction of students deserting school early, to work in farming or or doing work with minimal potentials. Fewer men and boys leaving Latin America for work in the United States and elsewhere. The opportunity is vast to use this program. to considerably improve students educational abilities here in Mexico, related to reading, speed reading, speaking English and more.

Making the most of speed reading classes.

Take a speed reading class to turbo-charge your learning.

If you have decided that you want to dramatically increase the speed and efficiency of your reading in order to work or study more effectively, there are several options open to you nowadays. Taking speed reading classes remains a popular option. Though it may be possible to gain the same knowledge through software or a correspondence course, speed reading classes may well be superior to these other options. The opportunity to measure your progress against that of others in the class, and to have personal instruction as needed, can be invaluable. Many students progress faster after they make the choice to attend speed reading classes.

What can you expect from a speed reading class? Some of us find the idea intimidating – probably because they are afraid that they will be unable to learn to read at speeds of 100 words per minute or more. It is true that, just as natural reading speed varies between individuals, so does one’s capacity to learn speed reading. However, don’t be discouraged if you consider yourself a slow reader by nature. Speed reading classes teach you knew techniques for reading that are different from those you normally use.

For example, the Evelyn Wood method (designed by one of the pioneers of speed reading) involves the use of a ‘pacer’ to speed up the movement of your eyes across the page. Evelyn Wood herself stumbled upon this method, when frustrated by her own inability to read faster. The accidental movement of her own hand across a page showed her how the eye is ‘led’ by a moving object. The result? People can learn to read faster, with little or no loss of comprehension.

Other speed reading classes teach different methods. The object of many of them is to stop people from ‘dwelling on’ a certain word, because that slows down the reading process. One method, therefore, calls for using your peripheral vision to read. If you read out the corner of your eyes, so to speak, the eye seems to be naturally drawn forward.

As you get faster – and some speed reading classes claim an incredible 1000 wpm – opinions vary regarding whether comprehension is lost. According to some skeptics, who have studies speed readers under controlled circumstances, it appears that speed does come at the expense of comprehension. In fact, some experts claim that reading faster than 600 wpm means that comprehension is radically reduces. There is also strong evidence to the contrary, however, and most speed reading experts claim that little or no comprehension is lost, even at incredibly high speeds.
